Israel claims to have retaken control of the Gaza border barrier and has managed to seal off the breaches ripped in it by Hamas fighters.
However, many here yesterday expressed concern that the fence is not the sole access into this portion of southern Israel.
Hamas members infiltrated by boats and paragliders on Saturday morning. Even if those methods would be difficult to repeat, the prospect of penetrating through tunnels remains a concern.
It’s difficult for Israeli forces to establish the location of the underground passages. Yesterday, rumors circulated that an infiltrator had penetrated a neighbouring kibbutz via a tunnel.
We don’t know if that’s true. But instances like those demonstrate the uneasiness, concern, and dread that not all Hamas fighters who have penetrated southern Israel have been apprehended.
