Israeli troops killed four militants attempting to enter from Lebanon, the army said Tuesday, as tensions between the two countries remain high.

“Observation troops spotted a terrorist squad attempting to infiltrate the security fence with Lebanon and plant an explosive device,” the army said in a statement.

“Four terrorists were killed,” it added.

Earlier, the military announced it had carried out midnight air attacks on Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah organization in southern Lebanon.

Since the commencement of the war on October 7, when Hezbollah’s Palestinian allies Hamas launched an unprecedented offensive on Israel, confrontations on the Israel-Lebanon border have killed more than ten people on the Lebanese side.

The majority of those killed were combatants, but they also included a Reuters journalist and two civilians.

At least two persons have been murdered on the Israeli side.

According to Lebanon’s state-owned National News Agency (NNA), villages along the western section of the border were subjected to “continuous” bombing overnight.

Homes in the village of Dhayra were hit, resulting in casualties, according to NNA, without specifying how many locals were injured or killed.

“The enemy (Israel) used phosphorus bombs and targeted civilians,” the news agency said.

The Israeli army denied using it after Human Rights Watch accused Israel of using the incendiary weapon white phosphorous in Gaza and south Lebanon last week.

It did not respond quickly to Tuesday’s NNA article.

The international world is concerned about the possibility of a second front emerging in the conflict, with Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah joining Hamas in its struggle against Israel.
