The Katsina State Government on Monday announced intentions to provide special allowances to Friday Mosque clerics, their deputies, Mua’dhins (callers of prayer), and Ward Heads in order to support them in their fight against insecurity.

Dikko Radda, the state governor, stated this after inaugurating the Steering Committees for the Katsina Community Watch Corps, KCSWC, but did not include Christian clerics in the planned allocation.

According to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ibrahim Kaula-Mohammed, the governor stated that the committee would work with other security officers to track out bandits across the state.

Members of the steering committee for each of the state’s 34 Local Government Areas, according to him, were the Council Chairman, District Head, Divisional Police Officer, and officials from various security organizations.

Others, he added, include two business representatives as well as religious faction representatives.

The Governor stated that the committee would monitor and analyze the KCSWC’s operations in their respective zones, and would provide monthly reports to the Commissioner of Internal Security.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu-Danmusa, stated that since the establishment of the KCSWC, insecurity has steadily decreased across the State.

Separately, representatives of Katsina’s Emir, Alhaji Aminu Nuhu-Abdulkadir, and retired Justice Saddik Abdullahi-Mahuta praised the governor for taking initiatives to combat insecurity in the state.

Nuhu-Abdulkadir, the District Head of Rimi, and Abdullahi-Mahuta, the District Head of Malumfashi, respectively, pledged the committee’s continuous support.
