The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Olusola Odumosu, has urged the officers and men of the Command to actively gather intelligence in order to address the current security challenges in the territory.

The charge was given during a briefing with personnel at the Command’s headquarters in Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja.

The Commandant emphasized that the criminals causing these security issues are not invisible entities but rather members of the local communities.

“We must, therefore, intensify efforts by fully activating our intelligence architecture to identify them and ensure they are brought to book,” the statement said.

He criticized the increase in banditry, particularly in rural communities near the outskirts of the FCT. He emphasized that the problem was worsened by the weak borders shared with Niger, Kaduna, and Nasarawa states.

He urged his personnel to work closely with the public, exchanging vital information to effectively combat insecurity.

“While our war against vandals is ongoing, we must shine our searchlight on the issue of kidnapping that has become the order of the day in FCT.

“Without information to work with, there is little or nothing the security agencies can do,” he said.

The Commandant expressed gratitude to the Minister of the FCT, Barr Nyesom Wike, for his support of security agencies in the Federal Capital Territory. He assured the Minister and all residents that the current situation would be resolved soon.
