Mikel Arteta’s team, Arsenal, suffered a defeat at Villa Park, joining the list of visiting teams that have failed to win there.

Despite their recent emotional victory at Luton, Arsenal couldn’t maintain their momentum and lost 1-0 to Aston Villa, causing them to drop from the top of the Premier League table.

The only goal of the game was scored by Villa captain John McGinn just six minutes into the match. McGinn displayed excellent finishing skills as he turned and scored after a well-executed play down the left side by the home team.

The win today marked Aston Villa’s 15th consecutive home victory and came shortly after their triumph over Manchester City at the same venue. As a result, they currently hold the third position in the league.

Arsenal made efforts to get back into the game, with Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus creating opportunities that forced Emi Martinez, Villa’s goalkeeper, into action during the first half. However, the visitors from north London struggled to gain momentum and failed to mount a strong comeback.

After the break, they were much more dominant. However, Odegaard missed a great opportunity by shooting wide when he had a good position. In addition, Kai Havertz had a last-minute equaliser disallowed due to a handball. This means that they were unable to score a late goal, which has been a common occurrence for them this season.
