In a new revelation, popular Nigerian singer Timaya has shared his harrowing journey of overcoming drug addiction.

During an interview with The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos, the ‘Dem Mama’ artist opened up about how he was introduced to drugs by individuals who frequented his home.

He recounted the devastating impact addiction had on his finances, career, and health, admitting to losing significant money and contracts due to his dependency.

Timaya revealed that he began using drugs during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, initially experimenting with “molly” after observing the happiness it brought to others. However, he soon found himself trapped in a cycle of dependence, experiencing weight loss and a decline in his overall well-being.

Timaya emphasized the destructive nature of drug addiction, highlighting how it replaced genuine happiness with a false sense of euphoria. He admitted to consuming multiple pills daily, likening it to medication despite its harmful effects.

The singer reflected on his near-death experience and the wake-up call it provided, prompting him to turn his life around. Through his song “Cold Outside,” Timaya conveyed the painful reality of his addiction, using its music video to share his journey of recovery and resilience.
