The Federal Government is currently in discussions with the leadership of Organised Labour regarding the upcoming nationwide protest scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
The meeting, which is ongoing in Abuja, involves the government, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, had previously announced a two-day nationwide protest to address the challenges faced by Nigerians.
However, TUC decided not to participate in the protest due to feeling left out of the decision-making process by NLC.
Additionally, 65 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) under the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations Forum have also withdrawn their support for the planned nationwide protest.
On October 2, 2023, leaders of organized labor and government representatives reached a Memorandum of Understanding after agreeing on 16 points.
The agreement aimed to address the hardships faced by the public due to the removal of fuel subsidies and find solutions to issues like the devaluation of the naira, inflation, and insecurity.
During a media briefing, Ajaero accused the Federal Government of not following through on the agreement made in October.
