After a hoax video appeared online, Ghana’s military was obliged to deny that West African generals marched into a meeting concerning the Niger situation to the theme song of the TV show Game of Thrones.

The doctored video was posted on social media by Ghanaian channel UTV before being removed.

According to Ghanaian army spokesmen, no such songs were played during Thursday’s guard of honour march in Accra, which kicked off a two-day ECOWAS meeting.

Regional defense chiefs are meeting there to finalize plans for possible military intervention in Niger, where the democratically elected president was deposed in a coup last month. Ecowas has vowed to use force to restore constitutional authority in Niger if diplomacy fails.

There are fears that further turmoil may exacerbate Niger’s already delicate security situation.
