Interim coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Finidi George, considers the upcoming international friendly matches against Ghana and Mali to be crucial and has expressed his readiness for the games.
Finidi George has taken over coaching duties for the Super Eagles of Nigeria following the end of coach Jose Peseiro’s contract.
George was a member of the Super Eagles squad that came in second place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and also served as Jose Peseiro’s assistant coach for approximately two years.
There are reports that George, who is currently the head coach of NPFL club Enyimba, has applied to become the permanent coach of the Super Eagles along with several other coaches.
While awaiting the outcome of the recruitment process, Finidi George will act as the team’s interim coach. He is currently preparing the team for matches against Ghana on March 22 at 5 p.m. and Mali on March 26 at 9 p.m.
Prior to the games, George stated to theNFF.com that he is fully prepared to lead the team and mentioned that training for the matches began on March 19.
“Definitely as a coach there is responsibility and that’s what we do. We have to be calm and do the job properly. A lot of Nigerians are watching, so, we want to make them proud. The AFCON is gone and these are two crucial games, we will take them seriously and make sure we get the best out of them,” Finidi said.
“The players are doing a good job in training. It’s not that intense because most of them are just traveling in. The team spirit is good, and I’m happy about it.”
Two friendly matches will be held in Marrakech, Morocco.
