The campaign kick-off was conducted in Okene, Kogi State, on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, ahead of the November 11 governorship election.
At the event, which was attended by top members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) as well as important party officials, the opposition party also officially handed over the campaign flag to Melaye.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke were among the party officials present at the ceremony.
Traditional authorities, leaders of faith-based organizations, youth groups, women groups, major political stakeholders, and hordes of supporters from around Kogi state are among those attending the flag-off.
Melaye is among the top three contenders, along with Ahmed Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Leke Abdejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Murtala Yakubu-Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Dino Melaye’s camp has accused his Social Democratic Party (SDP) colleague, Alhaji Muritala Ajaka, and Elder Leke Abejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), of working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Melaye’s campaign claimed that the governorship candidates are attempting to secure a third term for Kogi State’s incumbent Governor, Yahaya Bello.
This charge was made over the weekend, according to the PDP’s Dino/Deen youth campaign council spokesperson, David Itopa.
Itopa claimed that Ajaka was a close associate of Governor Bello and was involved in the deliberate impoverishment of the Kogi people.
