Justice Olukayode Adeniyi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court has granted bail to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele.
The judge ordered Emefiele’s immediate release to his lawyers, who were tasked with bringing him to court for his arraignment next week or on any other day.
According to the judge, the former bank president must also submit his travel documents with the court’s chief registrar pending his arraignment.
The judge further stated that incarceration without trial must be ended.
The court must also consider that he has been detained for 151 days, and the Federal Government and the Attorney General of the Federation must obey the court’s order.
The hearing on the substantive motion on notice and the preliminary objection has been scheduled for November 17, 2023.
