Court Awards N10 Million Fine Against Actress Halima Abubakar For Defaming Apostle Suleman

Published:

Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has been fined N10 million for making false and damaging statements about Apostle Johnson Suleman, the Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries International.

A Federal Capital Territory High Court issued the order on Monday, instructing the Deadly Plot actress to pay the amount as compensation to the cleric.

According to the court documents, Apostle Suleman accused Abubakar of posting negative comments about him on her Instagram, which were then shared by various blogs and newspapers.

Justice Enobie Obanor, in the judgment, mentioned that Abubakar had the opportunity to defend herself but did not take action.

The judgment partly reads: “The statements published by the defendant against the claimant on her Instagram handle, @halimabubakar, falsely and maliciously written and published to the general public, are defamatory of the person of the claimant.

“The sum of N10,000,000 only to the claimant as aggravated and exemplary damages for libel contained in the publication of the defendant against the claimant on her Instagram handle, @Halimabubakar and caused to be published in several blogs.”

Allub Times learned that court also prohibited Abubakar from publishing any more content about Apostle Suleman.
