Chelsea are said to be in talks to sign Antonio Silva from Benfica, who is a teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo in the Portugal national team.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team is willing to offer £52 million and Armando Broja as part of the deal to acquire Silva, who was previously wanted by Ronaldo at Manchester United.

According to The Sun, Chelsea has now turned their attention to the 20-year-old defender due to his impressive performances for Benfica.

The club is searching for a long-term replacement for Thiago Silva and sees Silva as the perfect candidate to fill the veteran Brazilian centre-back’s shoes.

Despite interest in the player, Benfica manager Roger Schmidt recently stated that the club will not allow Silva to leave during this January transfer window.

“We will not let Antonio Silva leave. We are halfway through the season, and we have big objectives with Benfica,” Schmidt said.

“He is happy at the club, so this is the end of the matter.”
