Chelsea have made a large proposal for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, competing with Liverpool’s interest in the player.
According to the Daily Echo, the Blues have made an offer for £48 million ($61 million) including add-ons, and talks are ongoing. The Saints rejected Liverpool’s most recent offer of £45 million ($57 million) on Monday.
Southampton’s asking price for the 19-year-old is £50 million ($63 million), but the Reds are said to believe he is not worth that much considering his inexperience.
Despite their separate attempts to buy Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, a defensive-minded midfielder, Chelsea have now entered the fray. Indeed, it was reported on Wednesday night that the west London club is now closing in on the £100 million-rated 21-year-old after a protracted pursuit.
The ball appears to be in Liverpool’s court, and they may be obliged to pay the extra money if they want to keep their man while Chelsea competes. It may come down to personal preference.
