The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Sunday evening of 12th November, 2023, that Usman Ododo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has emerged as the victor in the Kogi state governorship election.
The election results were announced by Prof. Johnson Urama, the Returning Officer from the University of Nigeria, Nnsuka.
Ododo emerged as the winner with 446,237 votes, defeating Murtala Ajaka from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who came in second with 259,052 votes.
Dino Melaye, the candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received 46,362 votes.

Biography Of Kogi Governor-Elect, Ahmed Usman Ododo
Born on January 1st in Okene, Okene Local Government area of Kogi State, Ododo began his education at the Local Government Primary/Roman Catholic Mission School (LGEA/RCM) in Upogoro, Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State. He completed his Primary school education in 1987.
Young Ododo then pursued and successfully gained admission to the Local Government Secondary School in his village, Upogoro, where he obtained his Senior Secondary Certificate Examination result in 1993.
Alhaji Usman Ododo later applied to the renowned Federal Polytechnic Bida in Niger state. He successfully obtained a National Diploma in Accounting in 1997 and then pursued a Higher National Diploma in Accounting in 2001, graduating with an Upper credit.
Additionally, Usman Ododo decided to enhance his skills in computer and ICT by enrolling in a training program at Unique Computer Institute in Oweri, Imo state. He successfully completed the program and received Computer Proficiency Training.
Ododo, who had a strong desire for higher education, enrolled at Achievers University Owo in Ondo state and earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree (BSc) in Accounting with a focus on FORENSICs in 2014.
In 2022, Alhaji Usman Ododo completed his Master’s of Science Degree (MSc) in Accounting from Salem University.

Working Experience
Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has a diverse working experience. He started his career as a Kogi State industrial Training Personnel from 1997 to 1998. During this time, he also taught at his alma mater, Local Government Secondary School in Upogoro-Okene. Later on, he worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria in Owerri, Imo State during his NYSC assignment from 2002 to 2003.
He also worked at the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) as the Manager of Finance, and at the Power Holding Company of Nigeria PLC in Kontagora as the Assistant Manager of Revenue and Disbursement Officer from 2005-2007.
In 2016, when Yahaya Adoza Bello became the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Usman Ododo was appointed as the Auditor General for Local Government of Kogi State.
