The deputy governor of Cross River State, Peter Odey, has disowned a post supporting the humanitarian minister, Betta Edu, who is currently facing investigation for allegedly diverting over N500 million.

The alarming situation was brought to light by Fred Abua, Odey’s press secretary, after a national newspaper reported that Odey had called for public support to defend Dr Betta Edu, the suspended minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation, in relation to the N585 million controversy.

“He doesn’t have a Twitter account,” he stated in his statement.

He stated further that, “This thing is run by scammers. His Excellency is only on Facebook for now!

“These impostors aren’t stopping. We have written disclaimers but they keep opening more and more new social media accounts, claiming to be one high profile personality or the other. The end is just to defraud the unsuspecting public.”

Abua firmly stated that his boss could not have made any public statement regarding the ongoing investigation into the alleged N585 million, as the state government has not yet expressed its stance on the matter.

The particular post on X credited to Odey read: “Dear Dr Betta Edu, you shall come out strong! We’re with you. I trust Mr President to do a thorough investigation on this matter. Betta Edu is Better.”
