According to reports, Barcelona has decided against pursuing Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi in 2024.

The Spanish international is reportedly the target of La Blaugrana’s January or summer transfer window, as Xavi sees him as a potential long-term “replacement” for Sergio Busquets.

La Real has remained steadfast regarding Zubimendi’s future despite the pressure surrounding a possible departure; Imanol Alguacil has hinted that the 24-year-old would like to play in the Champions League for his hometown team.

Despite a €60 million release clause standing in the way, Mikel Arteta of Premier League powerhouse Arsenal is still keen on Zubimendi, seeing him as the missing component in his midfield.

According to Mundo Deportivo reports, Barcelona is prepared to shift their strategy in their search for a new midfield player because Zubimendi’s style does not fit with their plans.

Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United and Amadou Onana of Everton are two Premier League players that Sporting Director Deco is reportedly considering to add a more physical approach to the Barcelona engine room.
