The excitement for Hollywood’s 2024 awards season is officially underway as the nominees for the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards were announced on Monday morning. Unsurprisingly, “Barbenheimer” led the pack with nine nominations for “Barbie” and eight for “Oppenheimer,” setting the stage for a highly competitive event. Additionally, the final season of “Succession” matched the nine nominations mark.

Cedric “The Entertainer” and Wilmer Valderrama had the honour of revealing the nominations in 27 categories during a livestream presentation on CBSNews.com. Ten categories were also broadcast live on “CBS Mornings,” providing fans with an immediate glimpse of the anticipated nominees.

Erik Davis of Fandango expressed enthusiasm, stating, “I think the best picture nominees, across the board, are some of the strongest that we’ve had in years,” during an interview with “CBS Mornings.”

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 7, from 8–11 p.m. Meanwhile, this year’s Golden Globes will introduce two new categories: cinematic and box office achievement in motion pictures and best stand-up comedian on television. Films and series released between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 qualify for consideration, further adding to the diversity of nominees.

The full list of nominees includes highly competitive categories such as Best Motion Picture—Drama, Best Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy, and Best Motion Picture—Animated. Notable mentions in the latter category include “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” and “Wish.”

The addition of new categories reflects the evolving landscape of the entertainment industry, with a focus on recognizing outstanding achievements in various aspects of filmmaking. The Golden Globes’ continued commitment to acknowledging excellence in both film and television ensures a dynamic and engaging awards ceremony.

As Hollywood anticipates the crowning of winners, audiences worldwide eagerly await the 81st Golden Globe Awards to witness the celebration of exceptional talent across the industry.
