The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, has announced his readiness to lead a coalition of opposition parties in order to remove the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Atiku made this declaration in a congratulatory message to the PDP governors, whose election victories were upheld by the Supreme Court on Friday.
In a statement released by his Media Office in Abuja, Atiku described the court’s decision as good news for the people of Bauchi, Plateau, Cross River, and Zamfara states and a victory for constitutional democracy.
He reiterated his belief that only a united opposition can strengthen democracy in Nigeria.
Atiku was quoted as saying, “I am as prepared as ever to lead the charge, alongside all our leaders and Governors, for the good of our country.”
According to him, “Where Justice is seen to have been substantially rendered, we, as patriots and citizens, will always applaud.”
Atiku also stated that, by the judgment of the Supreme Court, “there is a guaranteed continuation of the standards of good governance that the PDP has brought to the respective states.”
The former Vice President urged the PDP governors, specifically Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Barr. Caleb Muftwang of Plateau, and Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, to view their victories at the Supreme Court as a chance to strengthen and broaden the reach of the effective governance they have already implemented.
