Angola once again surprised everyone in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) by securing a spot in the knockout stages with a victory over Burkina Faso. The match ended with a 2-0 win for Angola, ensuring their advancement to the last 16.
In the 11th minute, Bertrand Traore received a pass inside the box and took a dangerous shot on goal. However, one of the defenders managed to block the effort, preventing Burkina Faso from scoring.
Ten minutes later, Cedric Badolo from Burkina Faso skillfully maneuvered past two defending players and reached the edge of the box. From there, he attempted a shot that missed the right post by a wide margin. The ball went out of play, resulting in a goal kick for Angola.
In the 36th minute, Angola’s captain, Fredy, broke the deadlock by setting up a pass to Mabululu. Mabululu jumped the highest near the penalty spot and scored a powerful header inside the right post.
In the 55th minute, Abdoul Guiebre tried to pass to his teammate from outside the box, but the opposing defense reacted quickly and stopped the attack. In stoppage time, Zini scored Angola’s second goal, securing a 2-0 victory for the team.
Angola had a great performance in the group stages, earning seven points and remaining undefeated with two wins and one draw. Burkina Faso also advanced to the round of 16 as the second-place team in Group D, despite their loss.
