Access Holdings Plc has announced that Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede will be returning as the Non-Executive Chairman, replacing Abubakar Jimoh.

The Board made a unanimous decision to invite Aig-Imoukhuede to lead the organization, as stated on Wednesday.

In his acceptance remarks, Aig-Imoukhuede said, “I am thrilled to be back in active service to the Access Group ecosystem. I am confident that, working with our directors, our exceptional team of executives, and our best-in-class banking and finance professionals, we will deliver outstanding value to our esteemed stakeholders. I am determined that our shared vision, which Dr. Wigwe gave everything for, will be realized.”

During Aig-Imoukhuede’s time as Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank from 2002 to 2013, he, along with his late partner and deputy, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, played a crucial role in shaping the bank’s path. Together, they led Access Bank to become one of Nigeria’s top 5 banks, expanded its presence to 9 other African countries and the United Kingdom, and grew its customer base from 10,000 to over 6 million.

Under their leadership, the bank’s assets grew to USD $12 billion, solidifying its position as a globally recognized financial institution. Since stepping down as CEO in 2013, Aig-Imoukhuede has been involved in various ventures. He co-founded the Tengen Family Office Limited, which manages a diverse investment portfolio in banking, finance, insurance, technology, real estate, and energy.

Furthermore, through the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, he is committed to developing Nigeria’s future leaders and improving access to quality healthcare.

Aig-Imoukhuede’s comeback to Access Holdings as Non-Executive Chairman shows the Board’s dedication to expanding on the groundwork set by him and Dr. Wigwe. In his new position, Aig-Imoukhuede will work with the Board to offer strategic advice to the executive management team, utilizing his vast experience and industry expertise.

Abubakar Jimoh, former Chairman of Access Holdings, expressed his enthusiasm about Aig-Imoukhuede’s appointment, saying, “Mr. Aig-Imoukhuede’s appointment to the Board and subsequent election as Chairman is a landmark development for Access Holdings. All our board members are excited about our future.”
