Abba Moro, the lawmaker representing Benue South senatorial district, has been chosen as the Senate Minority leader.

Moro, who is a two-term Senator from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was nominated by the opposition party in the Senate and was subsequently approved.

He has taken over the position from Senator Simon Davou Mwadkwon, who represented Plateau North Senatorial District but was removed by the Appeal Court.

The Senate had previously designated the Minority leader position to the North Central region, and Senator Mwadkwon, despite being a first-time Senator, was nominated by the minority caucus.

The newly elected Minority leader previously served as the Minister of Interior under ex-President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan‘s administration.

In 2019, he was elected to the Senate, taking over from David Mark, who had served as Senate president for two terms (6th and 7th Assembly) and was one of Nigeria’s longest-serving Senators.

The former minister currently holds the position of Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
