Victor Osimhen of Napoli refused to celebrate his goal against Udinese because of a dispute with his own club over a TikTok video.
Napoli published a video of Osimhen missing from the spot against Bologna on TikTok and in the backdrop added a high-pitched voice screaming ‘Gimme penalty please’. That video was removed, as did one from a few days before in which the 24-year-old was dubbed a “coconut” by the Serie A champions.
The forward’s agent, Roberto Calenda, has warned that the Italian club face legal action for publicly ridiculing his client. But the striker, who had snubbed several of his teammates prior to the game, did not let that deter him as he returned to scoring ways against Udinese on Wednesday night. Despite putting his team ahead by two goals, Osimhen refused to celebrate.
As a result of this change of events, Osimhen erased every post relating to Napoli on his social network. While he started against Udinese, it seems expected that he will depart the club in January. Since signing for £79 million ($96 million) in 2020, the Nigeria international has scored 62 goals in 107 games for Napoli.
Napoli will play Lecce in Serie A on Saturday before facing Real Madrid in the Champions League on October 3.
