US-Based Nigerian Bodybuilder Dies After Being Shot By Wife

Published:

Michael Chidozie, a 26-year-old Nigerian bodybuilder based in the US, passed away 18 days after being shot multiple times by his wife, Keaiirra Shavoiyae, during an argument on March 21.

Chidozie was kept on life support but eventually succumbed to a severe spinal injury and complications on April 8, as reported by Daily Mail.

Reports indicate that Chidozie was shot four times by his wife during a dispute in their Houston apartment, with their children present.

After being discovered with gunshot wounds, Chidozie was quickly taken to Ben Taub Hospital while his wife was found with their two young children, aged three and two, in a state of panic.

According to ABC13, court documents reveal that Chidozie was shot twice in the torso, once in the arm, and once in the chest.

Keaiirra, 28, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after shooting Chidozie. Her charges have not been upgraded since then.

Investigators say she claimed self-defense, fearing for her life, during an argument when Chidozie followed her into their bedroom. She grabbed a pistol and shot him.

ABC13 also reported that Keaiirra has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court on May 23.

Chidozie’s family is trying to raise $70,000 to bring his body back to Nigeria for burial. A GoFundMe has been set up to assist with the expenses.

In January, American-based Nigerian singer Osazuwa Agbonayinma, also known as Zuwa, was shot dead in the United States of America.
