Residents of Omagwa and Ipo communities in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State have blocked the entrance of the Port Harcourt International Airport to protest the lack of power supply and other basic amenities.

The protest has caused disruptions in flight operations, leaving air travelers stranded. The situation has also led to a traffic jam that extends from the airport road to nearby communities.

The protesters gathered as early as 7 a.m. on Wednesday to express their frustration. They highlighted the fact that despite being home to an international airport and enduring daily noise pollution, they receive no compensation and lack access to quality schools in the area.

One protester named Oki criticized the airport authorities for neglecting the needs of the community, saying, “We in Omagwa and Ipo don’t have light for over 10 years. We want compensation for the noise pollution coming from the airport every day. We are tired. That is why we are here. ”
