Popular Kannywood actress Amal Umar has been accused of trying to bribe officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Kano State.

Umar was brought before a Kano Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

The report states that the actress allegedly offered N250,000 to ASP Salisu Bujama of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Zone 1 headquarters in Kano State.

The prosecutor claimed that the bribe was meant to stop the police from investigating financial wrongdoing allegedly committed by her boyfriend, Ramadan Inuwa.

The initial complaint was made by Yusuf Adamu through his lawyer, H.I. Dederi, to the Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Umar Mohd Sanda, on August 18, 2022.

The complaint detailed how Inuwa allegedly misused a large amount of money, totaling N40 million, in his cell phone business. Subsequent police investigations revealed that Inuwa had transferred N13 million to the bank account of a Kannywood actress.

The spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force, Zone 1, Kano, CSP Bashir Muhammed, stated in a release on Thursday that the actress was called in for questioning and later released on bail.

However, she was not allowed to leave in a car that her boyfriend had reportedly bought for her.

The actress confessed that the money in her bank account belonged to her boyfriend, but she claimed that he only transferred N8 million to her.

After being released on bail, Amal Umar decided to take legal action by going to the High Court of Kano State to halt further police investigations against her.

The court issued a temporary restraining order, stopping the police from continuing their investigation into the actress. This allegedly gave Amal an opportunity to try to bribe the police investigator.

Fortunately, the police thwarted the bribery attempt and subsequently arrested the actress. They have gathered evidence to support the bribery accusations, leading to her being charged before the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The Kannywood actress is facing allegations of violating Section 118 of the Penal Code, which strictly prohibits the bribery of a police officer.
