Even the renowned Fuji icon, Wasiu Alabi, popularly known as Pasuma, initially pursued a career in football before transitioning to the music industry.

In an interview with Iyabo Ojo, Pasuma recounted how a setback in his football ambitions redirected his path towards a legendary journey in music.

Reflecting on his missed opportunity to represent Nigeria in the 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship in China, Pasuma revealed that his dreams of sporting the Nigerian jersey were dashed when he failed to secure a spot on the national team. This disappointment prompted him to shift his focus and passion to music.

“I used to be a footballer, but I decided to venture into music because I wasn’t chosen to participate in the World Cup,” he explained. “So, I made a conscious decision to pursue a career in music instead. Football came first for me.”

Raised in the Mushin neighborhood of Lagos State, Pasuma found inspiration in his role model, K1 de Ultimate, and began composing songs in 1984. He marked his official entry into the music scene with the release of his debut album, “Recognition,” in 1993, laying the foundation for a prolific career that has seen him release over 30 albums to date.
