Marseille striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has broken the all-time goal-scoring record in the Europa League by scoring against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Aubameyang scored his 31st goal in the Europa League against Donetsk on Thursday. He was played through on goal and calmly finished into the bottom corner, setting a new record.

He was tied with Radamel Falcao at 30 goals but has now surpassed the former Manchester United star.

It’s important to note that the record only dates back to 2009, when the UEFA Cup was renamed. However, he is also tied with the leading goal scorer in the UEFA Cup, Swedish legend Henrik Larsson.

Aubameyang has scored goals in the Europa League for different clubs. He scored 14 goals for Arsenal, eight for Borussia Dortmund, two for Barcelona, and now seven for Marseille. His goal on Thursday contributed to Marseille’s 3-1 win and a 5-3 aggregate victory.

Following their Europa League match against Shakhtar, Marseille will play against Montpellier on Sunday in Ligue 1. They are currently in ninth place in the league standings.
