AC Milan advanced to the UEFA Europa League last 16 after a thrilling 5-3 aggregate win over Rennes.

Despite Rennes winning 3-2 in the second leg, they were unable to overcome the deficit from the first leg. Benjamin Bourigeaud scored a hat-trick for Rennes, but Milan managed to equalize twice.

Rennes fought hard, but Milan’s experience and goalkeeper Mike Maignan’s saves secured their victory. The atmosphere at Roazhon Park was electric throughout the match.

Despite Rennes managing to secure a victory and giving their home fans something to cheer about, Milan’s experienced players ultimately came out on top. Mike Maignan’s crucial saves were a key factor in their success.

Rafael Leao, who has struggled to score in the past, found the back of the net for the second time in this match, rewarding the team’s strong overall performance. Additionally, Luka Jovic seized his chance to play up front instead of Olivier Giroud.

Stefano Pioli decided to put Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Olivier Giroud on the bench after their team had a three-goal lead last week. However, he brought Loftus-Cheek into the game with thirty minutes left, showing how the game’s momentum had completely changed. Loftus-Cheek might be disappointed about missing the chance to impress Gareth Southgate, but he may have another opportunity soon when playing at home.

With Milan advancing to the next round, there is a high chance they will face a British team in the round of 16. Teams like Liverpool, West Ham, Brighton, and Rangers are already through. Milan will be a tough opponent for any of them based on their performance in the two legs.
