Police authorities at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, have arrested Blessing Effiong and her husband, Bassey Effiong, for stealing $51,000 from their employer’s home in Lekki, Lagos.

Reports from the command indicate that Blessing was hired as a domestic worker on December 23, 2023, through a recommendation from an agent named Anthony. Surprisingly, just three days after starting her job, she ran away with $51,000, with her husband, and went to Cross River State.

In a press release from the zonal police public relations officer, SP Ayuba Umma, it was revealed that both suspects were arrested on January 31st, 2024, after a thorough investigation.

The investigation found that Blessing Effiong had deceived Anthony by providing false contact information and using phone numbers not linked to her identity. She also did not finish filling out her job application form.

At first, Blessing denied stealing a large amount of money, but later admitted to taking $30,000 and giving $20,000 of it to her husband, Bassey Effiong.

Bassey Effiong admitted in his confession that he received stolen money. He used some of it to pay for his late mother’s medical expenses, buy a Tipper Truck, Two Motorcycles, and finish a construction project in Cross River State.

Both suspects have been taken to court after the investigation was completed, as ordered by Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Olatoye A. Durosinmi, who is in charge of Zone 2 Command.
