The Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced that a recent single accident on the Sagamu-Ore-Benin expressway resulted in the deaths of at least four individuals.
During a press briefing in Abeokuta on Friday, Florence Okpe, the Public Education Officer for the FRSC in Ogun State, revealed that the incident occurred at the Ijebu-Ode section of the highway, causing all occupants of the vehicle to lose their lives.
According to Okpe, the accident involved a Toyota Camry with the license plate number BDG 184 FY.
She mentioned that the driver of the vehicle was traveling at a high speed, which caused them to lose control and end up in a swamp.
The crash victims have been identified as four adults—three males and one female.
“The suspected cause of the lone crash was excessive speed, which led to loss of control. The vehicle veered off the road and somersaulted into a swamp.
“The corpses of the deceased were taken to the State General Hospital morgue in Ijebu-Ode,” Channels Television quoted Okpe as saying.
Okpe also mentioned that the sector commander, Anthony Uga, has recommended that drivers taking long trips take a 15-minute break every four hours of driving to avoid fatigue.
Furthermore, it is advised to follow the designated speed limit while driving.
