Jose Mourinho has rejected an offer from Saudi Pro League team Al-Shabab following his dismissal from Roma last week.
The 60-year-old is currently unemployed after being fired by Roma on Tuesday, following a string of poor results with only one win in his last five games.
It was reported that Al-Shabab and Mourinho were in advanced talks over the weekend about a potential move to Saudi Arabia. However, according to Cope Radio [via The Standard], Mourinho is holding out for a more appealing opportunity and has decided not to join the club at this time.
“I will go to Saudi Arabia in some free time, but I am convinced that I will work there. I don’t know when, but I am pretty sure of it. Doors are always open for me in Saudi Arabia. I want to feel the development there,” the Portuguese said in an interview in October.
“Cristiano was the first to go there and give a different perspective immediately. The players thought at first that it was a one-man show but they realised in the summer that everything was really changing. Many players, not just in the last period of their careers, but also some players in the best years of their careers, are coming because the competition is real, not just in the domestic League, but also the AFC Champions League is very interesting.”
Over the weekend, Mourinho was seen in Barcelona, but he did not reveal the reason for his visit to Spain. According to The Times, it is expected that the Portuguese manager will return to Serie A and replace Walter Mazzarri as the manager of Napoli.
Later this week, Mourinho is scheduled to meet with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis. However, since Napoli is playing in the final of the Supercoppa Italiana against Inter on Monday, if they win, it is likely that Mazzarri will continue as the manager for the rest of the season.
