According to reports, Chelsea is spending a significant amount of money to ensure the safety of Moises Caicedo and Kendry Paez‘s families in Equador.
This is because Ecuador, their home country, is currently experiencing civil unrest and has seen multiple attacks carried out by criminal organizations. As a result, the club is funding 24/7 security for 16-year-old Paez and his family. The Telegraph also states that the same level of protection is being provided to Caicedo‘s family members who still live in Ecuador.
Concerns have been raised about the safety of Paez and his family due to the unstable situation in Ecuador. There have been incidents, such as gunmen storming a television station while it was live on air. Chelsea is in regular contact with Paez and Caicedo’s families and has promised to provide support until things return to normal.
Paez made history in October by becoming the youngest South American ever to score in a World Cup qualifier, at the age of just 16 years and 161 days. He has achieved several notable accomplishments, including being the youngest player and goal scorer in Liga Pro, leading Ecuador to the final of the South American Under-17 Championship, and holding the record for the youngest scorer at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
Paez will keep playing for Independiente until he reaches the age of 18 in May 2025. Meanwhile, Caicedo will return to play in west London next Wednesday against Middlesbrough in the second leg of the EFL Cup semifinal. He hopes to reverse the 1-0 disadvantage from the first leg.
