Inquiries have been made by Roma regarding the potential to acquire Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea in January.
A new centre-back is anticipated to be added by Jose Mourinho’s team, as both Chris Smalling and Marash Kumbulla have been out for several months.
Diego Llorente, Evan Ndicka, and Gianluca Mancini started in a back three during their 2-0 loss to Bologna last weekend, and Mourinho didn’t even start one recognised central defender on the bench.
Furthermore, Roma is reportedly considering a move for Chalobah during the winter transfer window in order to address their defensive concerns, according to Sky Sports Italia. The 24-year-old, who is anticipated to depart Stamford Bridge in January, has already received a formal request from the Giallorossi to join.
It was reported last week that Ian Maatsen and Noni Madueke are also on the firing list, and Chelsea is prepared to approve Chalobah’s departure for next month. If the Blues wish to sign a big-money forward in order to abide by Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, they will have to sell players in January.
After sustaining a thigh injury during a preseason friendly, Chalobah has not appeared in a single game for Chelsea this season. With two and a half years remaining on his West London contract, Chalobah is linked to Crystal Palace and Bayern Munich, among other teams.
Chalobah’s condition was updated by Chelsea on Friday morning, revealing that he is “continuing to undergo his rehabilitation program.” Chalobah, who made 33 appearances for the Blues in all competitions last season, does not yet have a stated return date.
Mauricio Pochettino discussed the centre-back’s role at Chelsea back in September, with Chalobah’s future remaining uncertain. At the time, Pochettino clarified, “What I can tell you is there is two parts.” If an offer comes up, it means that the player wanted to leave, the club was trying to find a solution, or another part of the club accepted it to move.
