According to reports in Italy, Victor Osimhen is expected to sign a new contract with Napoli that will include a release clause valued at least €130 million (£112 million).

After joining Napoli in 2020 for €81.3 million (£69.5 million), the 24-year-old has scored 66 goals in 116 appearances for the club. The current African Footballer of the Year joined the Naples side from Lille.

Osimhen, who was instrumental in Napoli’s Serie A championship win the previous season, has drawn interest from several Premier League teams in the previous 12 months, including Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal.

Rumour has it that Chelsea and Arsenal have discussed signing the Nigerian international during the January transfer window.

Osimhen and Napoli have reportedly reached an agreement in principle to extend Osimhen’s contract, according to Sky Sport Italia.

According to reports, Osimhen’s new contract includes a release clause worth between €130 million (£112 million) and €140 million (£120 million).

Osimhen was a guest on John Obi Mikel‘s podcast last month. Although he wasn’t specifically asked about joining Chelsea or Arsenal, the Napoli striker made it plain that he would only transfer to another European team after declining a summer transfer offer to join Al-Hilal, a Saudi Pro League team.

When asked if he intended to carry on performing in Europe, Osimhen replied, “Of course.”

“What was stated was accurate; I had discussions. That August week was a big one, one that required a big decision from me, but I entrusted it to God.”

It was truly mind-boggling to witness these things, and the more I refused to give in to these people [in Saudi Arabia], the more they increased it and increased it.
