Senator Adeola Olamilekan, Chairman of the Senate Appropriation Committee, instructed Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), to come before the committee within 24 hours on Wednesday.
Olamilekan, who summoned Kyari with the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), cautioned that failing to appear weakens the legislature and sabotages the process.
They must give a list of all individual enterprises operating with OML licences in Nigeria, as well as the total daily production output approved.
The legislator raised concern that part of the funds needed to fund the 2024 budget were ascribed to the NNPCL, which he said was owned by the Federal Government and accountable to it, as well as the three branches of government.
The NNPCL had previously refused to testify before a Senate committee investigating N11 trillion in expenditure on turn-around maintenance of refineries in the country between 2010 and 2023.
