Kassim Afegbua, the former Commissioner of Information in Edo State, has officially declared his desire to run for governor of Edo in 2023.
Former ex-military President Ibrahim Babangida’s former spokesman, Ibrahim Babangida, hinted last month that he has the capacity and competence to become the state’s governor and advance governance across the state’s 18 local government areas during an interview on Arise News.
Following that, Afegbua confirmed his interest in the governorship contest yesterday at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, Naija News learned.
According to him, the current condition of infrastructure deterioration and a lack of competent leadership, among other challenges, inspired him to enter the race.
Afegbua stated that needless fights and arguments among the leaders of the state’s ruling party have left the people of Edo befuddled as a result of deceptive and authoritarian politics, which he feels should not be the case.
The politician, who plans to run on the platform of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), promised to realign the state to coincide with national growth and fully capitalise on the possibilities that lay ahead.
