Nigerian music singer Rema has canceled all of his December gigs to focus on his health.

The Afrobeats star admitted to neglecting his health owing to excessive touring in an Instagram post.

The artist, who had scheduled gigs in Nigeria and South Africa later this year, said it was now time to rest.

“Breaks my heart to say that I won’t be performing anywhere this December. Been years of touring I’ve ignored my health and I need time to recuperate. 2024 we go again love,” he said.

This year has seen the star have a run of musical achievements, with his near-ubiquitous song Calm Down, which he performs with Selena Gomez, breaking many streaming and chart records.

The song was named the most shazammed music of 2023 and was named the best Afrobeats song at the Billboard Music Awards last week.

Earlier this month, he dazzled football luminaries at the Ballon D’Or honors, just days after Calm Down became the longest-charting and most successful African song of all time on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.

In response to Rema’s decision to cancel his gigs, another Nigerian musician Davido complimented him.

“The job isn’t easy physically and mentally! You’ve done Africa and the world proud beyond expectations. Get some rest king [and] come back stronger,” he said.
