Appeal Court Invalidates Zamfara Governor, Lawal

Published:

The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has been removed from office by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

The court has declared the Governorship election held on March 18 as inconclusive, which means that Lawal’s election as governor is no longer valid.

A panel of three judges from the Court made this decision unanimously, stating that the declaration of Lawal from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been voided and set aside.

Justice Sybil Nwaka Gbagiz, who delivered the main judgment, has ruled that a new election should take place in Maradun Local Government Area of the State, as well as in other areas where elections were either cancelled or did not occur at all.

The Court determined that it was unlawful, illegal, and unconstitutional to declare Lawal as governor based on IREV information without the results from polling units.
