Reps To Question Naira Marley Over Late Mohbad’s Royalties

Published:

The House of Representatives has summoned the CEO of Marlian Music, Azeez Fashola, nicknamed Naira Marley, over royalties owed to late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Along with Naira Marley, the House on Thursday summoned the late singer’s manager, Jiggy Adeoye, to an interactive session slated for Tuesday through its Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance.

Mohbad, a former Marlian Music signee, died in September, with various controversies surrounding his death.

Following the acceptance of a motion filed by Babajimi Benson (APC, Lagos), the House decided to become involved.

The duo was summoned to work on proper compensation for the late artist as well as to advise the committee on contract and agreement procedures to take in the entertainment sector.

The congressman called for a review of key legislation governing the entertainment business, as well as copyright, expressing serious concerns about contracts and agreements that entertainers are compelled to sign.

The House stated in a letter dated October 26 and signed by the committee’s clerk, Yusuf Ibrahim, that both Naira Marley and Mohbad’s management were required to guide the committee on further legislative action.

The letter was routed through the President of the Nigerian Performing Musicians Associations.
