Mario Balotelli took a savage jab at his former Liverpool manager by saying that Brendan Rodgers “was a disaster” as a person.
The Northern Irishman took a chance on the former Manchester City star, and the two collaborated for a year. Following Luis Suarez‘s departure, Liverpool decided to bring the versatile Italian back to the Premier League in 2014 in search of a new forward.
Balotelli made a lacklustre comeback after a drastically disappointing stint at Anfield. Just four goals in all, one in the league, came from him as Liverpool faltered and Rodgers came under increasing pressure. The following summer, the Italian went on loan to AC Milan, but after Jurgen Klopp arrived, he was let go.
Although Rodgers’ training philosophy has been praised throughout Balotelli’s career, the player has acknowledged that he was impressed with the programme, but the same cannot be said of their personal relationship.
The former Italian international was on an interview recently with TVplay where he burst to say a bit of his mind.
“Brendan Rodgers is the worst coach I have ever had,” said Balotelli. When it came to maintaining ball possession and playing small-sided games during training, he was the best. However, he was a disaster in person.”
Rodgers, who has enjoyed success at Celtic and Leicester City since being sacked by Liverpool, has always received the hammer from Balotelli at every given chance.
Following his departure from Liverpool, Balotelli failed to establish a permanent home, leading to his ongoing nomadic career. He was transferred to Marseille after making an impression at Nice. Since then, he has played in Switzerland, Russia, and Italy.
