Olubodun Sanni, a 21-year-old student in his final year at Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, AAUA, Ondo State, has admitted to stabbing a 20-year-old female student from the same university, Adekunle Ifeoluwa, in a dispute over her iPhone XR.
The victim, Adebisi, was a third-year economics student at the university and resided in an off-campus hostel with her attacker.
According to police sources, the suspect admitted that he was drawn to the victim because of her telephone and came up with a plan to befriend her.
According to the police source, “The suspect confessed even before her parents that on that ill-fated day, he approached the victim to transfer some films from her phone to his iPad.
“The unsuspecting female student obliged but didn’t allow him into her room. She told the suspect that her phone battery was low.
“The suspect then excused himself to come back later with his power bank to charge the victim’s phone.
“He came back to the victim’s room very late and was allowed into the room where he grabbed the victim by the neck and stabbed her in the chest with a knife he brought along.
“The suspect then took the victim’s phone, destroyed her SIM card, and inserted his own SIM card.
“Police findings showed that he would make use of the phone during the day and hid it inside an uncompleted building close to the hostel.”
According to Vanguard, information obtained from police detectives revealed that the SIM card was in use. They were able to track the call history to the suspect’s mother, who was then arrested.
“The mother after interrogation, led police detectives to her son’s hostel where he was arrested.” a source said.
The state Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, paraded the suspected killer, who is a Geology student of the institution, along with other criminals.
The suspect was arrested in Akure using modern technology to trace the stolen phone.
