Kenneth Omeruo has said that determination and teamwork were crucial factors in the Super Eagles’ successful performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The team surpassed expectations by reaching the final of the tournament.
Under Jose Peseiro’s guidance, the team began their AFCON 2023 journey with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea‘s Nzalang Nacional.
The three-time African champions managed to reach the final, but unfortunately lost 2-1 to hosts Cote d’Ivoire.
Omeruo stated that the players had confidence in their ability to win the title before the competition began.
The Kasimpasa defender from Turkey also praised goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali for his outstanding performance in Cote d’Ivoire.
“I am especially proud of Stanley Nwabali, how he was able to come into the team and show his qualities,” Omeruo told Arise TV.
”The team believes in itself and knows it can perform better. I hoped that we would win gold at the 2023 AFCON; nonetheless, our eyes are on AFCON 2025.”
