England fell behind 1-0 to North Macedonia when the hosts were given a penalty by VAR for a foul committed by Rico Lewis on Bojan Miovski.

Rico Lewis had a disappointing debut for England on Tuesday night, as referee Filip Glova controversially awarded a penalty against the Manchester City defender. While attempting to head away a long ball, Lewis inadvertently grabbed a North Macedonia player with his hand, prompting VAR to intervene and request a review of the incident using the pitch-side monitor.

During the international break, Lewis was added to Gareth Southgate’s squad at the last minute because several players had to withdraw due to injury. This gave him many chances to be in the starting lineup. When the Three Lions played against North Macedonia at the Tose Proeski Arena, Southgate gave the 18-year-old the opportunity to showcase his skills on the international stage by starting him as the left-back.

The Three Lions are currently losing to North Macedonia by one goal as they aim to finish their European Championship qualifiers.
