Bayern Munich overcame a first-leg deficit and beat Lazio 3-1 on aggregate to advance to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals thanks to instinctive goals from Harry Kane and Thomas Muller.
Lazio started the game strong and frustrated Bayern, but a missed chance by Ciro Immobile proved costly.
Kane quickly capitalized with a header to level the tie, and Muller extended Bayern’s lead before halftime by redirecting Matthijs de Ligt’s powerful shot into the net.
Kane scored his second goal in the second half by tapping in a rebound, which helped Bayern relax, as Lazio never seemed likely to come back once they fell behind in the overall score.
The victory means Bayern has made it to the Champions League quarter-finals in 12 of the last 13 seasons, relieving some pressure on manager Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel is leaving in the summer, and there were rumors that he might be fired immediately if the German team didn’t advance.
Lazio has never won a knockout tie in the Champions League and exited without even managing a shot on target.
