Two Dead, 15 Rescued In Ikoyi Boat Mishap

Published:

Two people tragically died in a boat accident in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State on Wednesday evening.

The boat, carrying 17 passengers to Ikorodu, capsized near Powerline, Ikoyi Link Bridge.

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) reported that the accident was caused by a rise in tide, leading the boat to hit a submerged high-tension pole and overturn.

LASWA confirmed that a man and a woman lost their lives in the accident, but their identities have not been disclosed.

Emergency responders were able to rescue 15 passengers unharmed.

Despite efforts, the female victim could not be saved after being recovered from the water.

“The body of an adult female was retrieved from the water and subsequently transported from the incident scene to the LASWA head office at Falomo before being confirmed dead by the LRU paramedics,” LASWA stated.

“The adult female remains have been bagged and await the arrival of the SEHMU officials. The search for the body of the adult male is ongoing.”
