Tragedy Strikes In Edo As Two Policemen Are Beaten To Death, Two Others Injured

In a disturbing event in Ikpeshi, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, two policemen on duty were beaten by an angry mob, while two others were injured.

The violence broke out after a tragic accident involving a Toyota Hilux vehicle, part of a convoy escorting a former member of the Edo House of Assembly, Emmanuel Agbaje. The vehicle collided with a motorcycle carrying a woman and her child, resulting in their deaths.

The local youths, overwhelmed by sorrow and rage, located the policemen and launched a vicious attack. Fortunately, the Edo State Vigilante Network acted swiftly to rescue the two surviving officers, who are currently receiving medical care at an undisclosed hospital in the state.

Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, confirmed the incident. He mentioned that the deceased and injured officers belonged to the Police Mobile Force (PMF) 19 stationed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Nwabuzor assured the public that an investigation is ongoing and that more information will be provided in the future.

The unfortunate incident has brought attention to the strained relationship between law enforcement and communities, emphasizing the critical importance of having discussions and making changes to avoid similar situations in the future.

The Edo State Police Command offers its sympathies to the families of the victims and urges for peace as they strive to hold the perpetrators accountable.
