The Presidency has confirmed that it is currently investigating financial irregularities involving the transfer of N585.189 million by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu.

Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, has stated that appropriate actions will be taken after the investigation is completed.

The funds, which were meant for vulnerable individuals in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun, and Lagos states, are believed to have been redirected into a private account.

The discovery generated significant indignation, sparking calls for Edu to be fired and prosecuted.

According to instructions provided to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, a leaked document supposedly signed by Edu authorised the release of N585.189 million into the private account of Bridget Mojisola Oniyelu.

Despite the controversy, Edu, through her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Rasheed Zubair, justified the payment, claiming that it was made in accordance with the law.
