Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker and social critic, has expressed his concern about the escalating food inflation and the high cost of living that are affecting the nation.

He made the statement following the recent loss of the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, to the Ivorian team in the Africa Cup of Nations final.

“AFCON Cup gone; we can now face Cup of Garri,” Sani wrote on his X handle.

Nigeria is currently facing a worsening economic crisis, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The IMF’s Executive Board recently published a report titled ‘Review of Nigeria’s Post-Financing Assessment’, in which it expressed its concerns about the country’s stagnant per-capita growth, widespread poverty, and severe food insecurity.

The factors have further exacerbated the ongoing cost-of-living crisis in Nigeria.
