The Supreme Court has confirmed Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as the legitimate Governor of Kano State.

Justice John Okoro, who delivered the main judgment, stated that the lower court made an incorrect decision by deducting 165,616 votes from Governor Yusuf’s total.

The ruling by the apex court resolves all legal disputes related to the March 18 governorship election in Kano State.

It is worth noting that in September 2023, the Kano governorship election tribunal nullified Governor Yusuf’s victory and declared Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the rightful governor.

The Court of Appeal later upheld this decision on November 13, stating that Abba Yusuf’s candidacy violated the Electoral Law. Unsatisfied with these outcomes, Yusuf appealed to the Supreme Court for justice.
